Fatima-A Forex Remitter For Bangladesh

Fatima's Father Mr. Abdul Malek migrated to Khulna from Pirojpur in the year 1990 as an escape from hunger. The 7-member family took shelter at Gobor Chaka slum at Sonadanga. The combined income of Fatima 's Father as a rickshaw puller and her mother as a day laborer was not enough to feed the family members. Fatima and her elder sister started to work as domestic helps in nearby households to support the family.

Fatima had a strong desire for education from her childhood and was further motivated when she saw the children of the households where she was working going to school. She came to know about the free education facilities of UCEP-Bangladesh from a lady teacher of UCEP Sonadanga school. Fatima manage to convince her parents for allowing her to go to school and got admitted into UCEP-Sonadanga school in July 1995. On completion of Grade-VIII from the school, Fatima got admitted into Garments finishing and Quality Control Trade of UCEP-Mohsin Khulna Technical School. On successful completion of Technical education, The Employment & Field Service (EFS) section arranged a job for her in the YOUNGONE Garments Industry in Chittagong Export Processing Zone. With her income Fatima bore all expenses of marrying off her sisters and provided the elder brother with a small fund for starting business . She took her mother out from work, she also used to save money every month at a local bank.

Even while in work she terminated in touch with UCEP. In 2006 the EFS section arranged an overseas job for her under the Overseas Employment Scheme of UCEP. She received 50% of the expenses from UCEP as loan while the rest was from her own savings. She flew to Bahrain the same year and joined Novel Garments Private Limited at Isa Town of Bahrain as a Sample woman. She is now earning about taka 16 thousand per month apart from free accommodation and food. Fatima is now a proud foreign exchange earner for the nation. She is indebted to UCEP for the transformation.
