Shariful Islam - An example of Struggle & Success

Shariful Islam was the third child of his day laborer father Md. RamzanAli. He migrated to Dhaka from Kishoregong at the age of 5 along with two brothers and one sister due to family conflicts. In the early days, shariful and family members were remain half feed or no feed as his poor father could not earn enough to maintain livelihood. He was forced to engage himself as a house boy with monthly salary of Taka 100. He eagerly wanted to receive an education, having seen numerous well-dressed children of her age going to school. However given his economic hardship and poverty, this was deemed to be an unattainable dream. Shariful always had a dream to do something for his family but found out no opportunity.

Thus when Shariful was facing a bleak future, one day he came to know about UCEP program from his neighbor. He expressed his strong desire tothe parents and finally convinced them for admission in UCEP School. In one fine morning, Shariful admitted in UCEP Shah Ali Bagh School at grade II on January 1999. He successfully completed grade VIII from the same school and admitted in UCEP Dhaka Technical School in the Auto mechanics trade on July 2002. He was very happy for getting admission inAuto mechanics trade as it was his long desire. Shariful completed auto-mechanics course in the year June 2004 and UCEP EFS section arranged a job for him in Shohag CNG conversion Ltd. with monthly salary of Taka 1500. He had a ambition to develop his career in the auto industry and worked hard to enhance skills further. Shortly, he improved his performance and promoted in the position of Assistant Mechanics. Now he is working there with monthly salary of Taka 7000 as well as other benefits.

Shariful is now helping for his family to rent a house and enjoying a descent life. His younger brother and sister got opportunity for education. For Shariful, what was once impossible dream was turned into reality with the ray from the UCEP's torch of knowledge. Shariful is very grateful to UCEP for giving him dignity where he could expect none.
