Empowering youth for inclusive growth: The Ministry of Social Welfare and UCEP Bangladesh signed an MOU to provide skills Training for affected youth of July anti-discrimination and anti-quota movement

On 30 June 2025, the Ministry of Social Welfare signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UCEP Bangladesh, launching a targeted skills development program for 200 youth (100 male and 100 female) who were affected during the Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Quota Movement of July–August 2024.

The MoU signing ceremony was a distinguished gathering, graced by Ms. Sharmeen S. Murshid, Honorable Advisor to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare. The event was also attended by senior government officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare including Dr. Md. Mohiuddin, Secretary; Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Director General, Department of Social Services, Ms. Nargis Khanam, Additional Secretary (Planning & Development); and Mr. Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan, Joint Secretary (Planning & Development).

Representing UCEP Bangladesh were Dr. Ubaidur Rob, Chairperson of the Board of Governors; Dr. Md. Abdul Karim, Executive Director; Engr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Director – Program & Innovations; Mr. Subinoy Dutta, Deputy Director – Resource Mobilization & Communications; and Md. Ashraf Uddin, Deputy Director – Field Operations.

Through this Government–NGO partnership, UCEP Bangladesh will provide free, three-month, demand-driven trade courses at its eight regional TVET institutes located in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, and Rangpur. Each UCEP institute will enroll a minimum of 20 youth (10 male and 10 female), ensuring balanced participation. The program will feature project-based learning, industry-recognized certification, personalized mentorship, and job placement support, equipping participants with practical, market-relevant skills tailored to real labor market needs.

This collaboration reaffirms the Government’s dedication to equitable development and UCEP Bangladesh’s mission to uplift underprivileged youth through transformative, life-changing skill-building opportunities that prepare them for meaningful employment and a brighter future.
